Things to do in San José
Our hotel’s ideal location close to Route 27 makes it easy to drive to beaches at the Gulf of Nicoya, but plenty of fun attractions are even closer. Check out these destinations in and around Costa Rica’s capital city:
Teatro Nacional – Located about one and a half kilometers from the hotel, this 19th-century theater in the center of San José is sure to steal your breath away. Take a tour to see Aleardo Villa’s famous “Allegory of Coffee and Bananas” mural, and walk the marble floors of the Italian-style vestibule. Don’t leave before ordering a cup of rich Costa Rican coffee at the coffee shop.
Museo Nacional – While you’re visiting modern-day Costa Rica, learn about historical Costa Rica at Museo Nacional, situated just two kilometers from the hotel. This museum has been in the city for more than a century, and one of its more popular features is the butterfly garden.
Volcán Arenal – Take a day to explore one of Costa Rica’s most active volcanoes on a horseback ride, a hike or a white-water rafting trip. After a roughly three-hour drive from the hotel, you can soak in the hot springs created by Volcán Arenal or take a more adventurous canopy tour. This 5,437-foot volcano’s last eruption period ended in 2010.
