Things to do in Riga
Our hotel’s charming Old Town neighborhood boasts cobblestone streets and a winding canal, perfect for leisurely strolls with loved ones. You can walk to must-see landmarks like Riga Castle and St Jacob’s Cathedral or spend the afternoon reading on a bench at Bastion Hill. Be sure to visit these popular attractions:
House of the Blackheads – This stunning building dates back to 1334 and served as the meeting place for the Brotherhood of Blackheads, a guild for unmarried merchants and ship-owners in Riga. The colorful building blends Gothic architecture with a Dutch Renaissance façade. Walk approximately eight minutes to see the bright red brick decorated with crisp blue and white detailing.
Freedom Monument – Dedicated to the lives of those who fought and died during the Latvian War of Independence, the Freedom Monument is a copper and granite landmark that stands 42 meters high. An important symbol of the country’s freedom, it is guarded throughout the day by two dedicated soldiers.
Central Market – This open-air market features vendors selling agricultural products in a large space that was crafted out of repurposed airplane hangars. In addition to smoked meats, fresh fruit and vegetables, you can purchase artisanal products like hemp butter, rye bread and fresh cheese.
