Things to do in Guatemala City
In the bustling neighborhood of Zona Viva, you can step outside the hotel’s front door and find more than enough shops and restaurants to keep you busy. Be sure to block out time in your schedule to visit these popular attractions:
Catedral Primada Metropolitana – This Neoclassical cathedral about a mile from the hotel became one of the city’s eye-catching attractions after nearly 90 years of construction. The 12 pillars in front of the church contain the names of the hundreds of Guatemalans who went missing or were killed during the country’s 36-year civil war that ended in 1996.
Palacio Nacional – From the stunning architecture to the storytelling murals, this palace is truly breathtaking. Less than a mile from the hotel, the Peace Statue in the courtyard marks the place where the Guatemalan government and the guerrilla forces signed a peace treaty after the last civil war.
Ixchel Museum – Located less than a mile from the hotel, this museum features textiles from more than 100 highland villages. Fabrics that date back as far as the 1800s showcase the divergence in style from village to village. In addition to interactive fabric displays, you can also browse Guatemalan artwork, ranging from photographs to sculptures.
