Things to do in Cartagena
Built in the early 1500s, this popular port city is bustling with beachgoers, business travelers and tourists who love history. Check out these favorite attractions:
The Gate and Clock Tower – Marking the grand entrance of the historic Walled City of Cartagena, the Torre del Reloj (Clock Tower) is about seven and a half kilometers from the hotel. While the original clock was constructed in 1601, architect Luis Philip Jaspe Franco renovated the tower in the Gothic style in the 1800s. Take extra time to explore the shops that surround this impressive structure.
Adolfo Mejía Theatre – Less than a 15-minute drive from the hotel, this horseshoe-shaped theater boasts stunning balconies, marble statues and a fabulous fresco ceiling painted by Enrique Grau. Take a tour of this architectural masterpiece that was built in 1911 to celebrate the city’s first 100 years of independence.
San Felipe de Barajas Castle – This stronghold on the shores of the Caribbean Sea was never breached, which is why some historians say it was the greatest Spanish fortress of the 17th and 18th centuries. Bring a bottle of water for your trek through this expansive fortress, situated about seven kilometers from the Radisson, and explore the tunnels that were expertly engineered to carry sound in case of an enemy intrusion.
